NYC Event? - End of April

Does anyone know of any big events or conventions going on in NYC the end of April, beginning of May? (April 29th - May 5th)

Thanks!

Why?

I'm looking to book a hotel and don't want to go then, if their is something major going on where I wouldn't be able to find a decent price or availability at a hotel.

There is always "something" going on in NYC. Try for a hotel room. But, rates are really high right now for pretty much all the time.

April is still fairly low season - but there are events all of the time. If you're exact timing is flexible why not look at a couple of hotels you're considering for a variety of dates?

Actually, April can be pricey. BUT; why don't you start looking for a hotel and see what's out there. If you start early even a more expensive time can be somewhat affordable. Last year My bother took his family there when many were traveling on school vacations and since he booked months in advance he got a nice deal.

What is your price range and do you have a preference on where in NYC you would like to stay? How many are traveling?

Just for me and my wife. We're meeting some friends. I'm looking for something in mid-town. I've seen some people getting 4-star hotels around $150 on Priceline.

Well $150 in April is VERY low for a 4* hotel. the only way to get that is on Priceline or travelzoo - some special deal.

(The average NYC hotel room - not luxury and not high season - but average for the year - is over $300 per night.)

I think you might be able to pull it off with Priceline. Go to www.betterbidding.com and post your dates, budget and star level and they will put a strategy together for you. They are really nice and very helpful! If they don't feel that it will work they will also offer some alternatives. Good luck!

It's always a good idea to book something cancelable that you could live with if Priceline doesn't come through. Priceline is difficult in NYC for a full week. You might have to break up your trip. I also think $150 might be a bit ambitious for late April/May when basic budget hotels are going for $200-250.
