NYC Eats - 3 Reviews

Recently in NYC to help my daughter move to an apartment in the West Village. Between all the associated work related to a move, we had the chance to eat 3 really good meals in the neighborhood.

- Quinto Quarto (www.quintoquarto.com) Really small place on Bedford that turned out to be a gem. We didn't have a reservation (highly reccommended) but they had an open table until 8 PM (we got there "early" about 6:30) Our host (and maybe manager) Emmanuel was charming and helped us with our selections. The wine (Rubio Sangiovese) was perfect (we had 2 bottles!) with our bread, meat and cheese appetizer, and pasta dishes. I had the penne al Pesto di Pistachio that was perfectly made and amazing with the wine; my daughter had the tonarelli salsiccia y funghi, (the best of all 4 I think) and the others had pasta dishes and raved as well. We shared a chocolate torte that was perfectly made and a great ending to the meal. FOr the four of us, including 2 bottles of wine the bill was $134. I can't wait to return.

Next day (Sunday) we had brunch at Extra Virgin, also in the Village. Another small place that is really popular. Excellent Bloody Marys, good omlettes. I'm fussy about my omlettes and they did it exactly how I like it - not a bit of brown at all. I swear that several people at this place looked "familiar". I kept trying to figure out what show or movie they were in...

Last night my daughter and I had dinner literally one block from her place - Marinella's on Carmine st. We shared the mussells, which were some of the best we've ever had. Their bread was browned, crispy and soft inside. OH boy. My daughter and I split the Trenette Al Pesto,- basil pesto, obviously homemade and al dente to perfection, with olive oil, garlic, pecorino. Exactly how I like it. Another place that I'll visit next trip to NYC.

My first night there we ate at Hudsons in Murray Hill on 3rd ave. Nothing much good about it except maybe the service. Over cooked food, overpriced salads ($13). Never again.

Double yum - I love the idea of pesto with pistachios

Thnaks for the reviews. I was surprised that four people could eat for that amount. I'd like to check it out if we go again.

Sounds perfect! We loved our meals at Cafe Boulud, Le Bernardin, Katz's Deli, The Boathouse and Esca when we were in NYC a few weeks ago. ***kim*** ((#))
