NYC - Discount hotel websites

I'm looking to book a hotel in NYC for May. I've found great prices on both http://new.york.hotelguide.net/ and http://reservations.hotel-directory.com/<BR>BUT they both require upfront payment and your name doesn't get passed to the hotel until 72hrs prior. Has anyone used this services? I'm concerned they might go out of business and I'll lose my reservation and my money (as I'll be paying in March for a May reservation). Help!

Keep looking at other internet booking sites... such as budgethotel.com. Most of the ones I used don't require any payment up front.. but, of course, they may not be as cheap as your "finds"! Or, you could try ringing a few hotels direct... one I liked was the Madison, which (you should check their website to see if this is still available) recently offered rooms for around $70 a double; we scored a family room plus breakfast for $88 for the four of us, and couldn't have been happier. But you can't get that rate on the net.

I've used www.quickbook.com and www.express-res.com before and have been very pleased. You don't pay until you get to the hotel.

another vote for quikbook. you get a confirmation immediately and you don't pay up-front (except on their special values). you can also cancel or change your reservations, usually up to 24 hours from your stay. their rates are higher than priceline, but you know where you are staying. They have never failed me.
