NYC Dining.

I have a one day trip planned to New York City and am completely clueless on where to eat. I would like someplace that has food such as burgers, sandwiches, chicken dishes, etc. I don't want to spend a ton of money on food either and it will most likely be a lunch/dinner so good sized portions would also be a plus.

I'll be around the Gershwin theater and Greenwich Village. Any reccomendations would be much appreciated.

By lunch/dinner I assume you mean one big meal in the late afternoon - rather than a lunch and a dinner. You'll get this only in casuale paces - which sounds like what you want anyway - since more formal restaurants usually close between lunch and dinner.

There are a host of casuale cafes that can supply what you want. It would help if you tell us when (is it warm weather and do you want a sidewalk cafe?) And what your plan for the day is- when you'll be where. Also it would help to know what your budget is - and if you will be having wine or beer (for former can drive up the bill).

There are so many, many places that all you have to do is walk around and check the posted menus on windows.

Check out The Garage for quite good food that's reasonably priced, great atmosphere, good drinks, and very good jazz:

A low key but really fun place to visit if you are in NYC is on the upper west side. It's called Sugar and Plumm. It's been there for less than a year but its fabulous. It's known for desserts but it has some seriously awesome savory menu items too. I always go with the pulled pork and waffles when I go. My only suggestion. If you aren't going with kids, it may be a little more enjoyable to go for a late dinner. It is a family restaurant but they serve drinks as well. Enjoy your time in New York!
