NYC Dec 19-22
Happy Holidays all!
I'm taking a quick trip to see my BF in NYC for a few days before Christmas. I've been to NYC several times before, but never at christmas time. In the 3 days I will be there I would like to - visit the holiday windows (about.com) has a walking tour map - ascent the Empire State bldg (haven't done that yet) - visit either the Met or MoMA, probably MoMA because I went to the old art last time and I love both - EAT A STEAK! This is one I don't know what to do about, where to go. I don't want to go to Brooklyn to Peter Lugers, is Wolgang's ok? Somwhere else better? I'd probably go at lunch time rather than at night. What other holiday type stuff to do is there? Thanks so much for your help |
Make a reservation at the STeak restaurant (whicever one you choose). Old Homestead, STrip house & Knickbocker also make a good steak. BLT gets good reviews too.

Any other suggestions for holiday themed activities/destinations?
Also looking for a good place for Holiday drinks |
We were just in NYC the wknd of the 4-6th... 5th Ave. was packed as was SOHO so be prepared for shoulder to shoulder crowds and even lines to get into some stores. We enjoyed browsing through the holiday markets at Grand Central Station and Union Square - though many of the same vendors were represented at both. One neat thing was having a drink at Michael Jordan's in Grand Central one evening while the laser light show display was shown on the beautiful ceiling.

The tree and skating rink in Rock Center
Central Park - Wollman rink and the zoo (check what time the animals get their Christmas presents - its a hoot) Neapolitan christmas tree and creche at the met - or the origami tree at Nat'l Histy Museum Check out the Times or New York Magazine or TimeOut NY to see what holiday music events/concerts are available those days (I always try to do the Nutcracker) |
To add to Grand Central & Union Square Holidays Bazzar I cruised
the ones behind the Public Library (42 St between 5 & 6th Aes) yesterday and they are worth a look-see. |
Lots of good info and a good search engine.
http://newyorkmetro.com/urban/guides/holidays/ For steak, a lot of the places already mentioned are good. BLT is the new "hot" place and may be hard ot get a reservation. The Strip House is young and downtown. Bobby Vans has 2 locations midtown and I think it's good and may be more convenient for midtown shopping etc. Buy tickets to the Empire State online ahead of time and save yourself standing in one line. I've also heard there's a pub near the ESB that gives you a VIP pass to pass all the lines in the ESB if you eat in their rest. Can't think of which one it is though :( |
