Kelly,

You can try Central Park on the Fifth Ave side from 60th St to a little north of the zoo on the weekend afternoon. Time Square have some possibilities on the weekend. South Street Seaport is another possibility on the weekend.

You can get both accomplished right near each other.

Street performances in Washington Square Park near the fountain on just about any nice day, especially the weekends.

We like "The Comedy Cellar" on McDougal (in the Village). Call ahead for reservations, i think it's about $15-20 cover and 2 drink minimum.

You can spend literally hours down in Washington Square on a weekend day, watching the performers. Don't know if there's still an African-American group of performers down there who do comedy, acrobatics, stunts--but they're hysterical.
