NYC Car Service Caution
 

FIrst, I want to say this is not a complaint. I do not beleive the driver could have done anything better. I just want to give a heads up on the time it takes to get into NYC.
We reserved with Dial7 for a Tuesday afternoon trip into midtown Manhatten from EWR. After reading comments, I figured 1.5 hours should be enough time. And then, I added another half an hour just in case. The actual time was close to 2.5 hours. We had to change restaurant reservations on the fly.
As I said, the driver did his best and tried to find a way around the traffic, but it wasn't to be. So be sure you allow lots of time to get into NYC from EWR.

That is an extraordinary amount of time even at rush hour unless there is ectremely bad weather or a severe accident.

Which is why, especially at rush hour, I always would take the train from EWRto Penn Station, easy and cheap.

This really isn't a car service caution at all. It's a traffic caution, which would affect car services, taxis, private cars and busses equally.

Not sure what day it was - but while it usually takes 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to get from EWR into Manhattan (depending on if you are going to downtown or the upper east side and time of day/day of week). However, if you are traveling at rush hour, if it's a holiday - or the friday before a holiday weekend, if there is bad weather, construction, an accident or an idiot truck driver trying to get an oversize vehicle through a tunnel it can take much longer. I once had it take almost 3 hours to the upper west side (combination of construction and an accident in the construction zone). This is VERY rare, but it can happen.

If you have a specific time for something you either need to arrive earlier - or make your appointment flexible.
