NYC Broadway The Producers, 42ND Street and ?
 

We would like to see some Braodway shows when we visit New York. We already have tickets for The Producers and 42ND Street and we would like to see one more show. We have already seen Mama Mia, The Lion King, Miss Siagon, Chicago, We Will Rock You (the Queen Musical) and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Can fodorites please recommend another Broadway show, preferably a musical, which is worth going to. We will be in NYC in April. Thank you.

Hairspray, but try to get tickets now, as they are generally sold out.

Hairspray and Moving Out are two good choices.

Hairspray would be my first choice for you also. You might also consider Thoroughly Modern Millie (one of the funniest musicals ever), Wonderful Town (classic 50's musical with an outstanding performance by Donna Murphy). or Wicked (a really unusual "prequel" to the Wizard of Oz).

Just saw Boy From Oz with the wonderful Hugh Jackman. Also thought that Gypsy with B. Peters was excellent. Agree that Donna Murphy in Wonderful Town was worth seeing for her and the great orchestra.

As its appears you have only seen musicals, you might want to take in a drama or comeday to get another experience. "Golda's Balcony" (one woman show about Gold Meirer) gets good reviews as does "Anna in the Tropics" (with Jimmy Smits). In April Richard Dryfress will be starring in "Sly Fox " a comedy by Larry Gelbart (MASH, etc). Alec Baldwin and Anne Heche will be in the comedy "Twentieth Centure". I haven't heard any previews on those. You might also consider something off-Broadway like "Stomp" (great show, not really a musical but there is some music) or taking in a conert at Carneige Hall or Lincoln Center.

Another vote for "Millie" if you can't get good seats for "Hairspray".

Another possibility is Fiddler on the Roof (which officially opens in a few weeks) and is now in previews. Gypsy and Never Gonna Dance are closing in about a week.
