NYC-- Blue Man Group

Taking 10 yr.old granddaughter to NYC for a great time. (her idea) What about the Blue Man Group for children? Is it worth it?

Thyra Mar 9th, 2001 04:18 PM

I've seen the Blue Man Group in Both NYC and Vegas and I don't think there is anything inappropriate for children in there. It's not geared TOWARDS children thats for sure, certainly I don't think I'd bring little (under 7) kids to see it. But it's basically more about musical rythms and visual performance art. We saw kids some older kids in the audience (around 10-14) and they were all into it.

I think it's a great idea to take your granddaughter to see Blue Man Group. Be warned if you sit in the first rows - it can get kinda messy. But it's a hoot of a show! Enjoy!

I took my 9 ys old son to Blue Man and he really loved it. In fact, Blue Man was, according to him, the best thing of NYC. <BR>Enjoy!

do not waste your money. Why not go to see Kiss Me Kate. My kids loved it. Also, Beauty and the Beast and Lion King are right for kids.

Caitlin Mar 11th, 2001 10:56 AM

So, George, are you saying you've seen Blue Man Group and found it a waste of money? I'm sure it would be more helpful to Jacky if you said *why*.

sam Mar 11th, 2001 02:04 PM

Hey, Caitlin, I'd be willing to bet that George has never seen Blue Man Group. Usually when people make such a blank statement, they don't know what they are talking about. Like when someone says, "don't waste your money eating at The Four Seasons". Usually they've never been there. Right, George? Or can you tell us what you didn't like about it that made it a waste of your money?

melinda Mar 11th, 2001 05:46 PM

Yes George, why don't you like the Blue Man Group? My husband and I are going to see them in Vegas next month and I would like to hear why you advise going to see them. My only experience with them is on Jay Leno and they were WONDERFUL and I would think a ten year old would eat that up?

george Mar 13th, 2001 08:21 PM

Melinda, you answered the question by yourself. If you are going to Las Vegas, it makes sense to see the Blue Man Group. If you going to Broadway, it makes sense to see the best acting in the country. And for Sam: you would be better off going to Jean-George or Le Cirque 2000.

sam Mar 14th, 2001 06:38 AM

Well folks, George has answered it. He has never seen Blue Man Group, only assuming that it isn't as good as other shows. Of course, George, you don't go to Blue Man Group for acting; it's not that kind of production. By your standards one wouldn't go to a jazz performance in New York either, because the only reason to go to New York is to see plays!

We took our kids to see Blue Men Group - they, ages 9 and 11 at the time, loved it. My husband and I wished for ear plugs so we could snooze after the first 15 minutes -- just make sure you wake up 10 minutes before the end. All kidding aside, it's relatively safe and harmless entertainment, although not really a NY theater experience like a Broadway show would be. If you're interested in Broadway, you might try Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Kiss Me Kate and Seussical all of which my 10 year old daughter loved.

Snooze through Blue Man Group!?! Wow. I've seen it twice, once with my parents, who are in their 60s, and thought the description sounded just too stupid for words, and once with friends my age (30). My parents still talk about the show as one of their favorite shows ever, and all my friends loved it. So much energy! Each time I've been there, there have been many kids around 10 years in the audience, and the ones I've seen have all walked out laughing and chattering. Take your granddaughter -- she'll love it.
