NYC Birthday lunch-13 yr old

Am suprising my 13 year old daughter (and a few of her friends) with a matinee of "Sing a long Sound of Music" at the Ziegfield for her birthday and was searching for a fun place for lunch before. Does anyone know if the Fashion Cafe is still in business--the phone numbers off their website were not working. If not, any other suggestions for that age group?

Hi Wendy! Is your dd turning 13 or 14? If she's turning 13, and is a "young" 13, she might enjoy Serendipity on E.60th. It's a burger place/ice-cream parlour that oozes girlie-girl stuff ~ tons of goodies to choose from, to gaze at or to buy ~ our then 12 year old dd just LOVED it!

If she's a more "mature" 13/14, there's always the Hard Rock Cafe.

Whatever you do, take tons of pictures! And enjoy!

Wendy, the Stardust is fun, but I think a bit too much of a let down from the Ziegfield. Try the Hard Rock CAfe, or Planet Hollywood which are within walking distance.

Also right across the street is the Harley Davidson Cafe, or up the street is Jeckel and Hyde. All are "theme" restaurants and a bit more upscale for kids her age.

I think the Fashion CAfe is gone, I tried to get the phone number and it is no longer listed.

Also another place that might be fun for the kids would be the cafe at Rockefeller Center, it's on the "skating rink" and the food is ok and you have a great feel of the city.

I can't wait to do the Sound of Music too.

Also to regulars, I had a frightening thing happen this morning. This is really the only place where I post and use my email address, and this morning I got an unsolicited email in my bulk account for illegal drugs, I was horrified.

I forwarded the information to the Attorney General of my state and of the state the "company" has their phone number.

I am now concerned about placing my email addres anywhere and have now terminated my email address and will use another service but WON'T post my address here again.

Ok off the soap box,

Wendy, if you have any more questions, please let me know.

Also when you make a reservation, make sure you let them know it's a birthday so that a cake can be delivered to your table and I think most of the restaurants have all the waitstaff come over and sing.

Have a great time.

gail

Note to Gail,

While this is 'off topic'....so sorry you received such a horrid email. This is similar to what I received when I first started posting here. To Fodor readers...this is why we all don't use our true email address (there have been a few threads chastising 'anonymous' posters)...it's a very strange world.
