NYC Bar/Club This Saturday Night for Early 40 Women
Hello
We are 4 early 40's straight women who will be travelling from Boston to NYC for a much needed overnight stay.
Looking for a bar/club that is casual for people watching, drinks, dancing perhaps and a great time. We are looking for something casual and not super dressy.
Thanks.

Ok. I can help but have a couple of questions: What sort of bar are you thinking of? Wine Bar? Dive Bar? Beer Garden? Crowded? Low-key or uber-stylish? Ultra-mod for the beautiful set? Is this on a weekend or a week-day? Price range? Dance clubs generally skew towards the very young set unless you go to a crowd (and tourist fave)like SOB's (Brazilian and attracts a mixed crowd)
In the interim, you can check out http://www.yelp.com, http://www.timeoutny.com and http://www.10best.com for reviews. Hope this helps!

I'd suggest Flute Bar, in the W. 50's as a nice option for drinks and people watching and you can go from there to some comedy clubs or nite clubs in the area. You are also close to restaurant row in that area so lots of choices for dinner too.
Have a GREAT time while you are here.

NYC has some very arcane cabaret license laws that make it difficult to have dancing in a casuale type clug. Most dance clubs are for the 20's set, very expensive and very difficult to get into. There are some other options - noted above - but very limited versus what someonemight expect in NYC - due to the laws (anyplace with dancing is considered a cabaret).

Bruno Jamais on the UES.The food is excellent and while they do not have a dance floor people dance at the tables. It is quite the scene.Age appropriate but it is expensive and things get started after 9:30PM for dinner.People start dancing around 10:30.
