NYC B&B's vs the Salisbury Hotel
I put the very important question to you fodorites last September when I was hunting for accommodation in NYC. You gave super advice, and I proudly followed it.
I stayed at the Salisbury last October with a family of 6. It was my maiden voyage to NYC, my maiden voyage to the US, and my maiden voyage outside of Australia. The Salisbury had a great family room, and for 6 of us it was worth every penny.
I am visiting NYC again, this time in April/May for 10 ten days with my very wicked sister.
We are able to manage our own luggage, we plan to stroll, eat, soak up museums, visit the turkish baths etc.
Can anyone recommend one B & B over another in NYC? Is this the way to go if all we want at the end of the day is a clean comfy bed, toilet and shower without the frills of a hotel stay?
Something similar to the Golden Gate Hotel in San Francisco would be outstanding...

There are very very few B&Bs in NYC but lots of hotel deals right now and a great many hotels that don't have "frills". You can find an excellent hotel for under $200 right now, and that's what I'd recommend. There's another B&B thread somewhere, and we all pointed out that there are just a handful of B&Bs in Manhattan. If you want just a bed, consider the Pod Hotel, which has very small rooms, but the cheapest rates require you to share a bath.

There's a Russian bath house down in the East Village ... very old-fashioned. And there is a remarkable Korean spa out in Queens called "InSpa World". It's a little hard to get to, but everyone I know who's been there has had a blast.
