NYC--apartment rental in UWS, JFK transfer
Hi,
We're thinking of visiting NY last week of October for 1 week, and are looking for a studio or 1 bedroom apartment with kitchenette in Upper West Side. Our budget range is $220-250 per night. I've checked metro-home, bigapplegetaway, citylights without success. NYhabitat seems to have more offerings, but does anyone had bad experience with them? Also, for JFK-Manhattan transfer, what is the better service: Carmel Cars or Supershuttle? |
I know more people who've used nyhabitat happily than any of the others you mention. You should also contact the London agents
www.apartments2book.com They have contracts with lots of apt/hotels and may have a good price for the Beacon or the Lucerne (both hotels with apt. like suites). The Beacon is #11 and the Lucerne is #12 on their map. Carmel is a car service. You don't share with anyone. Supershuttle is a shared van. Neither is perfect, but there are lots of complaints about SuperShuttle taking forever since you may have to drop off lots of other people first. Since you're planning on staying uptown, that would be particularly true, imo. I'd either use Carmel, or, if there are just 4 of you (or less), use a regular yellow taxi. They charge $45 flat fare (plus toll and tip or about $55-60 total). |
mclaurie,
Thank very much for prompt and informative answers. Much appreciated. |
Agree on using a cab - faster, more convenient and no more expensive than a car service. As long as there are no more than 4 of you (NYC cabs can take only 4 passengers) and don;t have a huge amount of luggage.
Are you looking for a small kitchenette for making breakfast and having drinks/snacks - or are you looking to actually cook meals? If the latter - I'm not sure the Lucerne kitchenettes would be enough. However, the neighborhood is full of tons of good, inexpensive restaurants - as well as several places with prepared meals that you can just microwave (try Zabars on Broadway and 80th.) |
Short-term sublet: www.craigslist.com
Car service: www.dial7.com or www.carmellimo.com Don't waste your time with the shuttle, particularly for a UWS location. Good luck! |
