NYC Afternoon Teatime

Looking for recommendations for afternoon tea in SOHO area. Also, recommendations on other SOHO area shopping, sights, etc.
Reviews on Tracy Sterns Salontea in the City Club Hotel?

I always recommend Lady Mendl's (for tea) at The Inn at Irving Place. There's a website with more information.

Thank you Merilee! I'll look it up for sure!

I can't think of any place in Soho that has a proper tea. Le Pain Quotidien on Grand St. near Mercer would have tea and nice pastries as would the Cupping Room, a nice casual place.

Lady Mendl's is supposed to be wonderful (in the Inn at Irving Place). Hadn't heard of the Tracy Sterns tea before but found a photo of the room which looks nice.
Here's a list of tea rooms

As far as shopping, here's a link to some highlights from NY Magazine. You can also click to some more options from there. Would help to know what type of shopping.

Thank you mclaurie. These sites were very helpful. As far as types of shopping ~ clothes, shoes, gifts, just unique neighborhood store types.

Check out Tea and Sympathy in the West Village 108 Greenwich Ave Cross Street: Between 12th Street and 13th Street. It has very British flavor. For a fancier tea time, I really enjoyed Tea at the Pierre Hotel, and the St. Regis has a lovely selection and great ambience.

One more place you might try is T Salon on East 20th here's a link:

the neighborhood is Flatiron/Gramercy, lots of upscale chain stores (Kenneth Cole, Aldo, Anthropologie) mixed in with more personalized places . . .

I go for Tea and Sympathy, it is all expats so you know it is the real thing.

I always feel cramped in Tea & Sympathy. Like I'm going to elbow someone.

I have never been but I have heard it is great as Merilee_Tucker said Lady Mendl's:
