FYI, Sixth Avenue, as it's known to us NY'ers runs from Canal Street, up to Central Park - a good 3-4 miles.

Assuming you mean midtown, there aren't a lot of rest. ON 6th ave (some though) as it's a wide avenue with lots of office buildings, hotels etc. There are many restaurants on the side streets though. China Grill is a big, modern Asian rest. in the CBS building on 35 st just off 6th ave. that's very glamorous.

Trattoria Dell 'Arte is on 7th ave. and 56 st and is a fun Italian with good antipasto, thin crust pizza and fun atmosphere. Redeye Grill next door is also good for seafood. Osteria Stella is another good Italian on 50 st b/w 6th-7th. If you mean further downtown, post back.

Heartland Brewery is also on Sixth, in the 50's near Radio City. Decent food -- teens would probably enjoy it. Cavernous space. Lively atmosphere.

Thanks for the suggestions. We are staying at the Hilton.

For teens, I would suggest THe Stardust Diner, it's on Broadway around 49th St, and it's diner fare, but pretty good, and all the wait staff are aspiring singers/actors so there is some fun entertainment.

Great burgers and milkshakes.

What about Jekyll and Hyde's on 7th Avenue, (212) 989-7701. Of course, my nephew's favorite place to eat is any Ray's location for pizza.

Patrick Jan 24th, 2005 06:40 PM

Jekyll and Hyde's is perfect if the teens are really 7 or under.

cpeicott Jan 25th, 2005 04:12 AM

I took (3) 14 year olds to NYC and The Stardust Diner was a huge hit.
Jekyll and Hydes was only okay.

I think the age of the teens (13 vs 18) will make a huge difference not to mention m vs f. A lot of the "theme" restaurants are near there and might appeal to younger teens. In addition to the ones mentioned, there's also Planet Hollywood and Mars 2112 (ugh). If they're boys, they might like ESPN Zone in Times Square.

Brooklyn Diner on west 57 st is actually decent and I think better than Ellen's. You're also not far from the famous Carnegie Deli (7th & 55 st).

ellen_griswold Jan 25th, 2005 04:41 AM

LOL Patrick! I also agree that the food at Ellen's Stardust Diner is mediocre at best, but our DD loved the singing waitstaff, especially when called up to sing along with them! ;) They also enjoyed Carnegie Deli and the Heartland Brewery, which has the BEST apple pie i have ever had! :)

Do not reco Jecky and Hyde's. There are reports of awful food and a complete lack of cleanliness - in the dining area (tables, cahirs and floors), plates and utensils, restrooms etc..

Agree that the age of the kids makes a difference. If they're older teens you may want to consider Trattoria del Arte - good italian, great antipasto, festive and amusing wait staff.

We still don't know where specifically, but a couple blocks off 6th on 58th Street is the huge and impressive TAO. Don't all teens want to pretend to be 20 somethings? This is the spot where the Paris Hilton's of the world and the Sex in the City crowd supposedly go. Maybe too wild at night, but really neat for them at lunch.
Look at their website and menus: www.taonyc.com

mclaurie Jan 25th, 2005 07:51 AM

TAO is on 58th b/w Madison & Park.

Patrick Jan 25th, 2005 12:26 PM

?? Isn't that what I said, mclaurie? A couple blocks off 6th (ok, 2 1/2.)

mclaurie Jan 25th, 2005 01:15 PM

Patrick, I thought you weren't sure where it was. I was helping O:-)
You said, "We still don't know where specifically, but a couple blocks off 6th on 58th Street is... "

MFNYC Jan 26th, 2005 05:56 AM

I'd take the teens to the village area for dining. It's more of a college town (NYU) atmosphere, and it is near the Ave of the Amer, just down at Bleecker St instead of 58th. It's a quick run on the 6th Av subway to W 4th st.

Patrick Jan 26th, 2005 06:52 AM

Oh, now I get it, mclaurie. I meant "we still don't know where on Ave. of the Americas YOU'LL be. . ."
Sorry for the confusion.
