NYC - 1654th & Grand Concourse
 

Two couples will be taking the subway from 71st and Central Park West to Yankee Stadium. First, however, we must go to 164th & Grand Concourse to pick up tickets being held there by a third party ticket service. Can anyone suggest which subway stop is the closest to the ticket location? Is the ticket location within walking distance of Yankee Stadium? How is the neighborhood we will be walking through?

That area of the city is not great for walking around. Why doesn't the ticket service overnight the tickets to you so you have them before your trip.

The closest subway stop to the ticket location is the D or 4 train stop at 161st Street and River Avenue. It is a 5 minute walk to the ticket pick-up location and another 5 minute walk to the stadium. The neighborhood will be fine; I am a single woman and would walk there on game days (or evenings) with no hesitation. The streets will be filled with people.

Are you absolutely sure that there is a pick-up location at that address on the concourse?

That sounds like the ticket drop that some services (like Stub Hub use) -- I know they use a hotel a few blocks from Shea for Mets games. If its Stub Hub, I'm sure they use a location near the same subway stop that you'd take to Yankee Stadium.

Thanks to everyone --- yes, the tickets were purchased with StubHub and that is the location they told me the tickets would be at, so I assume the location on the concourse is legitimate.

@ekscrunchy: I am curious why you ask if I am sure about the location. You are making me nervous with the question, could you explain your concern?

While I've been to many Yankees games over the years, the stadium is in the South Bronx.

The neighboorhood has gotten thousands of times better than in the 1970's/80's but, I still wouldn't walk around during the night around there without a ballgame going on.

Looking at the subway map it seems as though I can take the B train from 72nd and get off at 161st --- does that sound correct?

Like ekscrunchy said, it's either the D or the 4 trains that go directly to the stadium. You might have to change at 125th St with the B.

My concern is that I drove up the Concourse less than 2 hours ago. I did not see anyplace that looked like a ticket pick-up spot on the Concourse itself. Perhaps it is on 164th street right near the GC. Remember I was passing in a car..there are lots of apartment buildings with medical offices on the ground floor along that stretch of the GC....I am sure you will be fine and I feel kind of silly for worrying on your part. Do you have an exact address?

1000 Grand Concourse, Suite B

Mapquest shows it just north of 164th on the east side of the street.

PS Again --- my subway map shows the B train going to Yankee Stadium --- what am I missing?

You know what..it is probably a commercial space located within one of those big apartment buldings. So you should be fine. I was looking for some kind of store or office on the ground floor, which I did not see. I googled the address and see that it is the address of a company called MACS Amusements...which seems to erase all doubts! There is a phone number, too.

That location is even closer to the stadium than I had thought...you can see the stadium from there..you are not going to have to be trekking through an iffy area. I would guess the walk will take 5 minutes. Let us know what happens.

And check out the Feeding Tree on Gerard Avenue. New York Magazine listed it as the best place for dinner near the Stadium in their 2006 "Best of NY" issue.

I used to live in Manhattan in the late 70's off of CPW and 87th St. I looked at a subway map and it does look like the B stops at Yankee Stadium.

I guess you could take whatever train shows up first either B or D. Enjoy the game.

Here's the difference between the trains, in Manhattan the D train is express, it stops at 34th, 42nd,59th 125th,145th and heads to the Bronx going uptown, the B stops at all the local and express stops.

Thanks to everyone. We are back from the long weekend and had a great time. To complicate subway matters, the "C" was closed this weekend and other trains were running as the "C" --- we did get on the "D" on a couple of occassions and ended up at 125th....urgh!

The walk to the StubHub location was short, sweet and no problem. There is a small park you can cut through, and families were sitting about, kids were playing baseball, etc. There was nothing threatening about the walk or the neighborhood. There is road construction on Grand Concourse which makes the area look kind of dry and desolate.

StubHub has a small office at that location manned by a few young fellas in their late twenties -- computers, name on the door of the business, etc.

No worries at all. We had a great time and thank you all again for the help.

We sat ub Tier 11 upperdeck, which was between home and first base, but nearer to first base. I don't remember the row number, but we were about twenty rows down from the top...and about 12 rows up from the aisle that separates the box seats from the reserved seats.

Great view, a bit of the right field corner and foul line were not visible.

We paid $65.00 each on StubHub and the face value was $17.00.
