NYC - 1 night stay in 2 bedroom suite? Possible?
4 ladies going to NYC for a quick overnight shopping excursion. We need a safe, fairly convenient hotel. Having trouble finding a suite comfortable for 4 ladies without the old $$$$$. Any hidden treasures?

Is there a reason you want two bedrooms (presumably with one bathroom) as opposed to two rooms each with its own bathroom?

1) It depends on when. It may be the time of year that's so pricey more than the 4 ladies. Also day of the week-some hotels don't want a 1 night Sat. stay.
2) Agree with NeoPatrick that there are not many 2 bedroom suites and they're usually pricier than just getting 2 rooms each for 2 people. If you're willing to share beds, you could easily even bid on Priceline for 2 rooms and get each for ~ $150 plus tax which might be less than 1 room for 4 with only 1 bathroom. Hotwire is another option. |
both the London and the alex have 2 bedroom suites, but they can be pricey.

mclaurie, you can't get a 4* on hotwire or priceline for less than $300 for the current "season".

dmlove, I don't know what you're defining as the "season" but just picking arbitrary date of Oct. 5 there are 3 4* Priceline wins listed on betterbidding-Barclay Intercontinental for $130, Hilton NY for $155 and Hilton Times Square for $152--those are in 3 different areas. And yes, it's a Sunday which is a good time to get a deal. If these ladies are flexible, stores are open Sun/Mon. Later in that week there are still 4* wins for $235 or less.

You're right, and I just checked and actually Hotwire prices have come down, but for October 17th (the arbitrary date I used), the only 4* on Hotwire for 4 people is $454. We got ours on Priceline for the weekend of October 17-20 for $310, probably could have saved a few $$ if we had waited, but that was and is still a very good price.

For these ladies, getting 2 rooms on Priceline for around $150 up to even $200 each is better imo than trying to get 1 room on Hotwire where they'll only have 1 bathroom.

Agree that getting 2 separate rooms will not only cost a lot less but will give you a second bath.
If you want a living room as well, plus 2 beds and 2 baths - than that will always be fairly big $$$ - since you're asking for a LOT of room. Assuming you're willing to do the 2 rooms do look at Hotwire and travelzoo for deals. If you really want a 2 bedroom suite - then look at the Afinia group - they have many suite configurations. But they are in the moderate range - which at this time of year you may consider big $$$. |
You might try the Roosevelt Hotel on Madison Ave. It's close to shopping (there's a Daffys and Ann Taylor among others right across the street), not far from the theatres, some good restaurants, and sites to see.
The Daffy's at Herald Square, (34th and 6th Ave) was having a big sale when I was there the other day. Have a great time while you are here. |
Just an FYI- This past summer i wanted to get a 2 bedroom suite b/c my DD and i were meeting a friend and her son for a long weekend in Boston. I really wanted that common living area. We got it at the Fairmont Copley and it was wonderful, BUT it was a TON of space and we could have saved a TON of money had we just gotten adjoining rooms. In retrospect, we really didn't need that living room area.

Well we still haven't heard back from OP on when they want to do this etc. but emcash's post reminded me the Metro hotel (near Macy's) has a family room 2 bedroom suite with no sitting room or kitchen, just 2 bedrooms (one with king bed and the other with 2 doubles) and 1 bathroom. Still think 2 rooms is the way to go.

We splurged on a two-bedroom, two bath suite at the Affinia Gardens, on the upper east side. It was for one night, in May, and it cost about $625. Not cheap, but it was a special 21st birthday celebration. The Affinia chain has several suite hotels in NYC, I believe.

PeaceOut, tell us more. Was there also a separate living rooom? The price compared to two hotel rooms at $312.50 each doesn't seem bad at all.

Hi, Patrick. Yes, there was a nice living area, with seating including a pullout sofa, a dining area, and a kitchen. You can probably see pictures on-line.
I think it had a queen or king bed and a day bed in the master bedroom. Not sure if there were one or two queen beds in the second room. I think the suite could sleep eight. The Affinia Gardens front desk was very helpful. They even provided a wine basket for our birthday girl. The hotel is more contemporary in style, and very well-kept in a nice neighborhood. |
