NY UWS to Passaic, NJ

Other than renting a car or hiring a car service, what would be a good way for a family of four who lives around 75th and Broadway to get to Passaic, NJ? They have to be at a wedding at noon on Labor Day that will probably last about 6 or 7 hours.

You can take a NJ Transit train from New York Penn Station to Passaic. The station in Passaic is at the intersection of Van Houten St. & Passaic Ave. Don't know how close that is to your final destination but you could get someone to pick you up over there.

According to the NJ Transit site, a roundtrip ticket will cost $6.00 and the trip will take approximately 35-40 minutes. Check out the NJ Transit website if you want anymore information: http://www.njtransit.com/sf_tr_schedules.shtml

The Passaic station is on the Main and Bergen Co Line.

If you go islandboy's way, you'll have to switch at Secaucus junction. No problem with that, just try not to arrive too early or too late to pick up the Main Line (DO NOT TAKE THE BERGEN LINE, it doesn't go to Passaic as I have learned the hard way).

The #190 bus in and out of Port Authority most likely runs a little more frequently on holidays than the train does and can drop them off at many points off Main Ave.

Where exactly in Passaic do they have to go? The train drops you off in a park but you wouldn't want to walk far in your wedding clothes.

If transportation to Passaic is anything like transportation to Clifton & Montclair, take the bus. The trains probably won't be frequent enough or convenient for you - may not rum at all on Labor Day. Buses make more stops and even if the service to Passaic doesn't include a stop right where you need to be, you will at least be able to get off in a better spot to wait for someone to pick you up.

Thank you all for your help. We can have someone pick them up in Passaic to get to the wedding.

My next question is getting them to Teaneck for the rehearsal dinner Sunday eveing. Any ideas? I'll li=ook at the njtransit website as well.

Check the section getting to and from Manhattan on this website

In addition to those regular buses, I think the red and tan service that's listed is a van service (common in NJ suburbs) that runs frequently but maybe local can confirm.
