NY Theatre
Planning a trip to NY to see a Broadway show and don't have enough time to get tickets to any of the most popular shows. Has anyone seen: Bat Boy, Urinetown, Proof or Dance of Death? Can you recomend one?
|
I saw "Proof" last winter when Mary-Louise Parker was in it and LOVED it. Jennifer Jason Leigh is in it now and I bet she's great too although I haven't heard. <BR> <BR>"Urinetown" is a tough ticket to get now too. I've heard it's hilarious but people seem to either love it or hate it. I haven't seen it yet myself. <BR> <BR>"Bat Boy" got good reviews and has good word of mouth but I haven't seen that one either. <BR> <BR>Not familiar with Dance of Death... <BR> <BR>If you have alternative tastes, which you seem to, you might enjoy "The Shape of Things" which is off-Broadway. I just saw it and thought the writing and cast were brilliant. It is a serious drama though. I would put it right up there with "Proof."

Lisa - Thanks for your reply. I like Jennifer Jason Leigh and I'd bet she does a great job in "Proof". "The Shape of Things" sounds great too. I want to take a corporate client with me. Do you think either would be appropriate?
|
It would totally depend on the client. If it is a young person who enjoys edgy, provocative art, then I would say that "The Shape of Things" would be appropriate, but if not then I would recommend "Proof" instead. "Proof" is generally easier to like than "The Shape of Things" and is appropriate for a wider audience. I would probably go with "Proof" if I were you just to be on the safe side. As long as the person enjoys serious dramas and is not expecting a crowd-pleasing musical I can't imagine them not appreciating it.

Proof is excellent, as Lisa previously mentioned. Dance of Death by Strindberg, which has its official opening on Thursday stars Ian McKellan and Helen Mirren. Further endorsement should not be necessary!
