NY shows with our teens, De La Guarda?
 

We are looking for shows to take our teenage sons to. We are considering Stomp, but would like some feedback on something called De La Guarda Villa Villa.

I heard from some film students that DeLaGuarda is an amazing experience, but I have not seen it.<BR><BR>I suggest you go to TKTS in either Time Square or in front of the American Indian Museum near Battery Park to get 1/2 price tickets. You may see something in the list of the days shows that catches your eye.

<BR> We just returned from N.Y. with our 2 teen boys. Took them to see Chicago,<BR>I was'nt sure about due to the theme and<BR>attire of cast,but it was great and they loved it.My kids are 16 and 19.<BR>

Another one that teens usually like is Rent. However, the theme and content of that one can be iffy for some, as well.<BR><BR>

De La Guarda is a very fun show. ITs not a traditional show, but rather a sort of Trapeze/Circus event set to crazy music with dazzling lights and audience participation!<BR>ITs very exciting because the show is above you and all around , you actually stand for most of it. I'm sure teens would like it.

Just one thing to note: <BR><BR>I haven't seen it but my mother took my bro/sis age 16/18 at the time. Something went on which was somewhat sexually suggestive involving a woman cast member removing my brother's shirt. I know my mom thought it might have been "a bit too much" and we're not exactly a conservative family. You may want to get some details from those who have seen it if that will be of concern to you.<BR><BR>In the same category with Stomp is Blue Man Group which I thought was awesome. <BR><BR>I'm not trying to talk you out of DLG but don't want you o get into an uncomfortable situation without expecting it...

We just went to NYC in June and took our 17 year old son and his 16 year old friend. They went alone to TopDog Underdog and to Urinetown and they thought they both were great! They couldn't stop talking about these shows.

De La Guarda (they dropped the Villa Villa) is a fun, good show. It is very loud, entails you standing up for over an hour, and you will probably get a little wet (how is that for mysterious?). I find that the less you know going in, the better it is. How old are your teenagers? I'm in my late 20s and think it is fantastic, a lot of fun (I've been more than once), somewhat redundant but a fun evening out nonetheless. If you're more in the mood to sit down and have an offbeat entertainment experience, I'd recommend Blue Man Group or Stomp. I've heard mixed things about Urinetown.

I saw STOMP in Dallas a year or so ago and on an HBO special and it was fabulous. My son plays drums at school and he couldn't get enough of it.

Hello,<BR><BR>We loved, loved, loved De La Guarda.<BR><BR>We were a group of 5 23-28 year old girls. To clarify above, you remain standing for the WHOLE performance (which is about 90 minutes). It is loud and rowdy, but nothing I found offensive. There are sexual undertones, but IMHO, nothing shocking.<BR><BR>The performers, in one scene, lift some of the audience members up on the trapezes. If you don't want to be involved in this, try to situate yourselves so that you are not in the center of the theatre (try to move a bit off to the side). You'll see once they let you into the theatre.<BR><BR>It really is something else. Unlike any other theatre experience I've had. I say go!!!!!

I have seen the show twice, once when it first opened and again last December. Although it is still enjoyable, I thought that the original cast was much better than the new cast members. Most of the South Americans who made up the original cast have been replaced by Americans and something of the feel has been lost.

I thought that DeLaguarda was disappointing... it's neat for 20 minutes or so, but after that, i had enough. It was about as entertaining as a movie, so for the money, i thought it was a poor value.<BR><BR>A MUCH better choice would be Blue Man Group at the Astor Place theater!! The above suggestion of Rent and Stomp are also good choices, but i would HIGHLY recommend Blue Man Group out of them all (and much cheaper than seeing them in Vegas).

We have taken people of various ages to see Stomp and all loved it.<BR>Even our 10 year old:)<BR>DeLaGuarda can be rough on the feet and neck,as you stand through the whole thing and look UP!<BR>And don't wear good clothes as there is a lot of water and stuff flying around.

Our son went to Nunsense in NY last night (18 years). They enjoyed it.
