NY shows

We will be spending a weekend in NYC and will be seeing two shows.
Spring Awakening is our first choice for a musical and we would appreciate a rec. for a drama.
Thanks

I have been told that August Osage is absolutely outstanding. One of my theater friends (goes to everything) said it's the best thing he's seen in 20 years.

We enjoyed both Cyrano de bergerac and Tom Stoppard's Rock n Roll (NOT a musical).

I saw Pygmalion recently and really enjoyed it. If it's still playing, you might want to consider it as well if it's still playing when you come.

I saw August: Osage County in the Steppenwolf production and was blown away by it. Since almost the entire Chicago cast is transferring, I would expect the NYC production to be equally good. However, it is an intense and long show. You might want to check out online reviews first to see if it would suit you.

Thanks everyone.
It looks like theses are good choices.

I really enjoyed The Farnsworth Invention- saw it twice now. It's by Aaron Sorkin, who wrote The West Wing, and it's about the race to invent television. It didn't get glowing reviews (just opened), but I liked it.

I second Pygmalion. Jay O Saunders
as Eliza's father is amazing!

Will add to recommendations for the play "August:Osage County". Saw it in previews in early November. It was amazing.
It is long (2 intermissions) but kept my group (4 of us) riveted and they are mostly fans of musicals.

2nd the recommendation of August Osage. Thanks to this forum I went this week. The show was packed, but we got discounted tickets through broadwaybox.com and had great seats. It appeared that a large majority of the crowd was locals who go to every show.

If you go to Steppenwolf.org, there's a discount available on the home page on the bottom right. An amazing play -- saw this in Chicago, and I LOVED this.

Thanks again,
I was able to obtain discount tickets for August Osage via broadwayoffers.com
$128 dollars for two tickets
row h aisle R orch.close to center.
For a musical we stayed with Spring Awakening.I was able to get good seats via telecharge for New years weekend.
Since we live on LI and usually spend new Years weekend in NYC we decided to visit the theatre in the afternoon.I am sure this is why we were able to get better seating. This also allows us to check out some of our favorite restaurants.
Happy Holidays everyone

Tell us how you like Spring Awakening, cindymal. :)

I'm going to see it in January for the 4th time.
My 3rd time I heard a lot of people leaving that seem to be really confused by it. :(

Just want to comment that I didn't think Pygmalion was as good as others suggested. If you're not familiar with the show, it's My Fair Lady without the music or costumes. Yes, the father was pretty good, but Clare Danes was nothing special as Eliza and Henry Higgins put me to sleep.

ITA with Cyrano. I saw it last month (the night before the strike), with Kevin Kline and Jennifer Garner. They were both great.
