NY Pastrami sandwich
I know there was a thread on this before but I can't seem to find it. Where can we find the best pastrami sandwich experiance? We are going to NY this weekend and staying in the Times Square area.

Katz!
|
Do you have an approximate address for Katz?
Thank you! |
i don't have an exact address but it's lower east side are, on e. houston st. Check menupages.com for address. From the times sq area, take the F train to 2nd Avenue and Houston St.
|
Pastrami is also great at the Carnegie, not kosher but kosher-style. 7th Avenue at 55th.
|
Take the schlepp to Murray Hill for <b>Sarge's</b>: 548 Third Ave. between 36th and 37th. Yum!!
|
Sarge's or Katz.
Oh how I long for the days of Second Avenue Deli! I dream about their Matzo Ball Soup and pastrami! |
CArnegie Deli is the best but bring a friend they are tooooooo big, you will want to share.
|
Another vote for Sarge's. Good deli food and not as inconvenient as Katz's.

Sue,
Just a clarification..."kosher-style" is really just a marketing ploy. The religious requirements of being kosher mean a restaruant is either kosher or not kosher. Kosher isn't a style of cooking. Chinese, Mexican, Italian restaurants & even some Dunkin' Donuts can be Kosher. http://www.religionfacts.com/judaism...ces/kosher.htm |
Katz' has by far the best pastrami in Manhattan. It is on Houston Street corner of Ludlow..also great grilled hot dogs.
|
Katz is tops.
Mendy's is an un-heralded one that is also kosher. I've been there many times with some Jewish business associates who all swear by it (figuratively). http://www.mendysdeli.com/ |
|
Kosher is the way they slaughter & prep food, not a marketing "ploy", Dick.
In a kosher deli that sells meat, you can't get milk products; or vice versa, i.e., 2nd Avenue Deli. Carnegie Deli sells both meat & dairy items; and while some items may be considered "kosher" in their preparation, the outlet is not. |
Sue,
I did't say that Kosher was a marketing ploy...I said thet "kosher style" was a marketing ploy. My comment was addressed to your description of pastrami at the Carnegie as being "kosher-style" |
The meat has to be slaughtered ritually to be considered kosher.
THe Carnegie deli is considered "kosher-style". If you ever have the opportunity to visit, you should ask them. |
The Carnegie Deli considers themselves "Kosher-Style". Observant Jews would condsider them trayf.
Ritual slaughter is only part of the requirements to be Kosher. You might find this site of interest. http://www.religionfacts.com/judaism...ces/kosher.htm |
Thank you everybody for your replies. I think we will skip all other activities and eat all weekend! I can't wait to get there.
|
Oh , are you ever playing on my emotions !!!
