NY NY or Monte Carlo

We will be in Vegas the second week of December. Have stayed a couple of times at MC but that was 10 years ago. Been reading pretty awful reviews on trip advisor for MC. We don't care about the pool area or dirty windows what concerns me is the number of people who had problems in their room and asked for changes. Has anyone stayed there recently? Should we be concerned about the rooms? We like that part of the strip so our other thought is NYNY What do you think about that? We are really looking for a nice clean well kept room.

If you like that area...how about MGM? I stayed there a few months ago and was very pleased. We were upgraded to their MGM Signature and these rooms were fantastic. Never had such comfort in a room before. Lots of good deals out there too.

We stayed at Monte Carlo a few months ago, and we weren't happy with our "suite" or the desk staff. I would say MC is ok if you get a rock-bottom rate for a standard room.

I've never stayed at NY NY.

I can't speak to the MC since the fire, so I'll leave that alone. NYNY is horrible. The layout is bad & there is a massive amount of foot traffic due to the ESPN Zone. What about Paris or Caesars ?

I agree with Allison why don't you check out the MGM Grand, I stayed there and I think the rooms are great, also the prices are almost the same when you check the promotional offers the hotels give out (they are all posted on smartervegas.com) here are links for you to compare prices and deals:

NYNY Promos: http://www.smartervegas.com/hotels/n...onalcodes.aspx
Monte Carlo Promos: http://www.smartervegas.com/hotels/m...onalcodes.aspx
MGM Grand Promo: http://www.smartervegas.com/hotels/m...onalcodes.aspx

Deals usually come out 3 months ahead of time so you may want to still wait a bit before booking and wait for deals to come out.

Thank you Sara I did not know about that web site! I always thought MGM was just to big so never thought of staying there. I now have lots of choices.

I will be the dissenting voice here for MGM. My problem was not the rooms.. But I am sensitive to chemical/perfume scents. And whatever they are pumping by boatload into the main floor at MGM is nauseating! I literally got an instant headache as soon as I walked into the door. I believe they are using it to cover up the smoke. And it does that. But if you are sensitive to scents/chemicals/perfumes, do not stay at the MGM.

(I was in Vegas in January and walked through 2 dozen casinos. None of them but the MGM had this horrible perfume issue!)

There are lots of deals in Vegas that week. Just so you know though, some shows are dark that week.

We had a fountain view room at the Bellagio that week--great location, right in the middle of the strip. It was my husband's birthday. Sign up for the e mail alerts on their website.

It's a nice quiet week to visit. You can stay that week at much nicer hotels though--sign up on their websites to receive their updated rates.

I have stayed at both over several years. Most recent trip was late 2/08 at the Monte Carlo. Not too long after the fire and not all floors were open.

I would choose the MC over NYNY. The rooms, while standard, are still larger than the NYNY rooms. I also like the feel of the casino better. That is a personal preference.

That being said, I still normally will visit the NYNY casino at least for a walk through.

Poker is better at MC IMHO and the rest of the table games are similar, the NYNY is generally busier.

I've stayed at NYNY a lot, it's fine! But right now they are remodeling the casino and there isn't a lot of action there. Should be done in Dec for sure though.

I stayed at Monte Carlo, too. I have no complaints.

I would stay where they have the best deals.

A few weeks ago, I stayed at TI for a change and am sold on that. The location is more central, I could walk everywhere and the casino/hotel was super easy to navigate.

If you DO stay at NYNY, try to gegt a room near the elevator. The hallways can be quite long. But I have never ever had a bad experience there.

Have a fun trip! Win big!!!

Thanks so much for all the responses! We are really looking forward to our trip. I can't believe it has been 10 years since we were there. I know most of the shows will be dark, hoping that Chris Angel gets great reviews and we can see that. I'm truly loving that website Sara! Thanks again

Larelie, since it has been 10 years, you should know that Vegas now has a Monorail that runs from Stratosphere (on N end of strip) to the MGM Grand on S end of strip. So, location shouldn't be a problem, no matter where you stay. The Monorail can take you wherever else you need to go on the strip. (Dang, those casinos don't look that far away, but once you start walking...oy!)

I thought the monorail went as far as the Sahara. It's really kinda cool to ride.

Just be warned if you get off at MGM, the walk to the front of the casino can be quite long.

If you have not been to Vegas in 10 years, you will be in for some wonderful surprises. Remember not to do too much in one day, go with the flow and enjoy!

Laurelie, Sounds like you have a lot of options. I found this link to be helpful: http://www.lasvegasinhotels.com

I always check travelzoo. They have some great options. Like Sara said, it is a little early for some deals, but you could book a room as long as you have the option to cancel before your trip if something better comes along. As far as MGM, I was there in May and had no problems with any fragrances in the casino/hotel. I am usually very sensitive to those things also.

I always sign up for emails from the different hotels, they will send you whatever deals they are offering. Have Fun!!
PS- MC had some massive construction next to it, it is a large project not to be completed anytime soon.. FYI
