NY Hotel recommendations please

I am taking my mother to NY - a first visit for both of us. I'd like a hotel that's not too expensive, clean/comfortable and in a relatively easy position for getting around.

The obvious question: What do you mean by "not too expensive"?

I'm not sure but I guess I had in mind approx £60.00 sterling per night?

I would recommend the Hotel Beacon. it is in a good neighborhood and has a kitchenette in the rooms. I stayed there with my mother.

You'll have to rethink your budget, you won't get a hotel for that rate in NY that you would want to stay in, as that's only about US$100. NYC is one of the most expensive hotel cities in the world, about like London. The Hotel Beacon would be fine but is about twice that rate, I believe.

The discounter rate for the Beacon was about $150 US, at least in mid February. I stayed at "On the Ave" for $110, also mid Feb, and I thought that was a great deal. You will probably have to stretch your budget a bit, especially if you are coming in the Spring or Summer, when those type prices aren't available. Both these hotels are in the upper West Side, which is a nice location, and easy to get around. You also might check prices for the Edison which I've heard good things about. It is closer to the theater district.

Try Habitat--new and about your price range. Also, the Pickwick Arms at 52nd and 2nd--great East Side location-- is in that range. Rooms in both are tiny, but clean.
