I LOVE YOU McLaurie!!!!
We are booked at the oh-so-wonderful 60 Thompson. I looked at that one at the very beginning of this quest/saga, and just couldn't face the sticker price. I have never heard of or used Ouikbook. In the past, I've always called hotels direct and asked them to match prices I've seen online through expedia etc... but there are so many advantages with Quikbooks - including not paying in advance. I am so completely in your debt. Thank you.

Out of curiousity, what did you think about Night? Royalton? Hudson?

Re: Inn on 23rd, I didn't think there was anything wrong with this at all. It seems very nice, just not right for us for this trip. We really wanted to experience a hotel room that wouldn't feel like anywhere else on earth than NY, and also, something more contrast to our own turn of the previous century home.

Interestingly enough, our reservation directly through the hotel Night was a better rate than Quikbook online rate. So, if someone is reading this who wants to try that hotel, call direct.

We are so excited about 60 Thompson! We'll go to Night for a drink, and report back on the heroin chic or frat party sightings...

"Out of curiousity, what did you think about Night? Royalton? Hudson?"

The Hudson is in a somewhat less than convenient location with painfully small rooms, but very nice place.

My feelings on the Royalton echo some of the headline reviews on tripadvisor "love it or loathe it" "past it's prime". I think it's great to win on a Priceline bid. I wouldn't want to pay $479 to stay there though. The Night? I don't know, it just looks like they're trying too hard. 60 Thompson will give you not only the hotel but the area I think you'd want for your urban experience.

I got a great rate at the Michangelo Hotel in May. It looks like a beautiful boutique hotel and the normal price for the room we chose is 525 - we got it for 260 the 1st night, and 195/night after that. Book online for a better deal at their website - this rate also includes an "Italian breakfast".

Great call on staying at 60 Thompson! It's chic and very hip. If you like Thai food you should eat at Kittichai (which is a fabulous restaurant attached to the hotel). They have all sorts of wonderful martini concoctions and the food is terrific.

Socialworker: There's nothing "wrong" with The Inn on 23rd but it can't even compare with 60 Thompson. 60 Thompson is extremely upscale (celebs, etc. stay there), the decor is impeccable, very modern...you get the idea. The Inn on 23rd is "nice" but unless you get a really good deal price-wise there's no reason to stay there, especially because it's not "New York-ish at all." Not very hip, not very happening.

alan2007, I see this is your first post on Fodor's.

Rather than pull up a thread that was started in January 2007 may I suggest you start your own thread.
I would also suggest that you do not type in all caps as that is considered shouting.

Also, the title of your thread should mention where Big Bear Lake is; I'm pretty sure it's not in New York City.

Going on Google here is a website for BearBearLake rentals Alan2007

http://www.bigbearlake.net/vacation-rentals/

I hope that helps.

And welcome to Fodor's!

Again if you have questions etc., do start your own thread as no doubt you will receive good information.

You might make the title of your thread "Info regarding house rentals at BigBearLake, CA" for example.
