NY Hilton & Towers

We are staying at the Hilton near Rockfeller Center in late August. Can anyone give me a review of this hotel. Thank you.

We stayed at Crowne Plaza/Times Square in March. Is this the same? Nice hotel. Great location. Clean and secure. Food and alcohol were expensive. Eat at the breakfast bar across the street. Much cheaper and bigger! Our hotel was within walking distance to Broadway shows, and everything else in Times Square. 2-3 blocks (15 minute walk)to Rockfeller Center and 5th Avenue shopping. Never took the subway! We bought a 2 day/2 night pass on the double-decker Sightseeing bus. It was worth the $. Takes you on a narrated tour everywhere, and you can get on and off at any stop (Statue of Liberty, Trade Center, China Town, Little Italy, Soho, Central Park, 5th Avenue, Empire State Building, etc.) Get the info and passes at the Visitor's Center in Times Square. Start early!

The Crowne Plaza is a different hotel.
The Hilton is one of New York's major convention hotels. Don't let that throw you, however, it is a fine property, conveniently located at 53rd and 6th. You are within walking distance of a lot of the sites--Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's, Central Park, Empire State Building, Times Square and the theater district are all within a mile's walk.

It's a huge convention/businessmen's hotel. The lobby reminds one of Grand Central Station. The rooms are very nice and well appointed. The location is terrific. Across from the 53rd St. garage entrance/exit is a large convenience store that also has a hot/cold buffet with wonderful food (sold by the pound) to enjoy at tables within or carry out. The NY Visitors Center is right around the corner (7th, 52nd/53rd) where you can hop on a Gray Line double decker, pick up literature/coupons, buy discounted show tickets. If you're driving in, there's less expensive overnight parking nearby. See www.iconparking.com

Recently, I have been reading reviews about this hotel, especially if you use priceline, which is what I did for the first time and received NY Hilton and Towers. The reviews for priceline customers are poor. Does anyone or a priceline user have any good reviews!

I don't know what Priceline users expect for their bargain rates, but the Hilton is a fine hotel. I've stayed there many, many times. Sure, maybe it's a little impersonal. But, hell, I'm only sleeping there.

The NY Hilton is a nice, 1st class hotel with an EXCELLENT location for tourists.

If you don't want to pay Hilton coffee shop prices for breakfast, a good place to eat is the Star Diner at the corner of 54th St. & 7th Avenue. The food is pretty good, service is quick, & prices are reasonable by NY standards.

Priceline users complain about things that would affect everyone, like extremely slow/inadequate elevators, no bellman, and incompetent concierge (surely they don't know a guest's Priceline status?!).

I am convinced a lot of Priceline users are incredibly insecure about their status or have this incredible sense of entitlement despite paying bargain-basement rates. I have used Priceline, stayed at this hotel, and thought it was more than adequate, especially since I paid less then $90 which would barely buy me a cot at the Y in Manhattan.

I stayed at the Hilton last November for a conference. It was just fine, and as others have said, in a terrific Manhattan location. You should be perfectly comfortable. I just stayed at the Crowne Plaza last weekend, which I got using Hotwire.com. Same sort of hotel. Comfortable, big, anonymous.

We have stayed twice at this hotel, both times at Thanksgiving and had great rooms both times. No complaints whatsoever. It was very busy but never had to wait in a check-in line more than 10 minutes and the staff was very friendly. Great location as well. You won't have any complaints I'm sure.

I've stayed at the Hilton a couple times for business conferences and it was fine. The location is very good, and the rooms perfectly nice. It's a Hilton -- that about says it, none of those kind of hotels are that difference. I do think the elevators may have been a little slow, now that I think of it, but that happens in a lot of huge hotels like that. I don't use bellman, find them kind of annoying myself, nor do I use concierges.
