NY Giants and Yankees
 

I need recommendations of where to fly into while staying in New York City 9/15/-18 to see the Giants on Sunday and then on to see the Yankees on Monday . LGA, JFK, White Plains, Newark. Also recommendations where to stay and how to get from place to place during our trip. We will be leaving NYC to travel to Portland, Maine and then back to NYC for the following weekend and 1 more game on Saturday the 22nd. We are also interested in tickets for the games if anyone has connections especially for the Giants.

well if u don't have a car then manhattan should be where you stay. if cost is an issue then stick with jfk as it's only $7 to reach manhattan. so many hotels to choose from just search expedia. far as tickets go, yankees tickets are a dime a dozen.. if u need giants tickets check out ebay or craigslist.

my dh and son are in NYC right now - saw a Yankee game earlier - they opted to take their rental car (they need it for other things this week) to the hotel - they are staying at the Marriott in Timesquare and took a train to the Yankee game... it was upon the advice of his family who lives in Manhattan and goes to the games all the time.If you like I can ask him more details upon their return home?

Dh bought his tickets on Stubhubs - he is seeing the Mets as well. No Giants..

Giants tickets will have to come thru a ticket broker or on-line reseller.

Stay in Manhattan.

You can take the bus from the Port Authority directly to and from the Giants game, and the subway to the Yankees game. You should fly to the airport that offers the best schedule and fare (other than HPN, White Plains, too far).

Unless you rent a car you need to stay in Manhattan so that you can take public transit to both venues. Do not fly into White Plains - getting into the city is very inconvenient and time-consuming. For the others - take whichever has the cheapest/most convenient flights - since there are multiple ways into the city from each - at various price points. (For both venues public transit is at least as easy as driving - and unless you want to avoid Manhattan the rest of the time - I don;t reco staying in Jersey, although there are some chain motels not far from Meadowlands.)

Best way to get into the city from the airport depends on how many you are, where you're staying, how much luggage you have and how you value finances versus time and schlepping your stuff all over the city. (SInce you'll be buying all these expensive tickets I assume that $ are not an issue.)

This is starting to be high saeason so you need to find a hotel NOW. Without kowing how many of you there are and what your budget is I can;t make recos. As for areas of the city - midtown is most central (bus to Giant Stadium goes from W 42 and you can take the subway to Yankee Stadium from either east or west side of midtown). Suggest you check travelzoo.com to see if they have any bargains for your dates.

You don;t need connections for Giants games. Just go to the scalpers. We use stubhub.com for Yankees tickets and they have always been reliable and their prices are not the highest. You can also look at ebay and Craig's list - but in that case you need to shop carefully to make sure you do get tickets - and that they're real. If you don;t have Yankees ticket yet you can ry the web site - but most games are sold out - esp decent seats - so try stubhub for them too.

Do not get a rental car if your only reason for getting is the ride to Giants Stadium. While it's been awhile since I've done it, New Jersey Transit runs buses from the NY Port Authority to Giants Stadium on game days. The buses leave after the game.

The best part is the buses have their own exit out of the parking lot and are well on their way back to NY as the hordes are still inching their way out.

In terms an airport, I think with the NJ rail link the Newark is the easiest but many may disagree. You might want to base your choice on airfare rather than airport.

Because you are arriving the day before the football game and leaving the day after the baseball game you first need to decide where to stay and then, perhaps, choose the airport based on that.

If you don't plan on coming into Manhattan, then you can avoid Manahttan prices by staying at a hotel in the Meadowlands area of NJ and renting a car.

You can still come into Manhattan during the day on Monday if you want by commuter bus. Normally I wouldn't recommend this, but you seem to be coming for the sports events, not to sightsee in NYC, and I think the cost of Manhattan lodging is too much to justify staying here.

Hopefully, you are flying into EWR rather than JFK. But your plans are really unclear; are you flying up to Portland, ME, or are you planning to drive?
