NY - Dinner around the Iroquois hotel in NY

We are looking for italian, american/continetal, french, seafood. We like a place we like a place we can dress up for. Any suggestions would be welcome.

thank you.

You can dress up for anyplace you like - no one will turn you away for being overdressed.

Are you looking for gourmet cuisine and an upscale budget?

For seafood the best in NYC is Le Bernardine - not so far from there. Also excellent- but a little less pricey is the Sea Grill at Rock Center. Are those in your budget range (check menupages.com) or are you looking for a diferent range?

There's a gorgeous restaurant within the Iroquois. Also in the same block are DB Bistro Moderne, Gaby's at the Sofitel, the Round Room at the Algonquin...

thank you. We are looking for around $200 or so for dinner. We live in DC so are used to the high price.

Then don't go to Le Bernardin. It's very good, but the lower end tasting menu is going to set you back $270, not incliuding drinks, taxes and tip.

DB Bistro Moderne is a lower cost alternative. Good bistro food and definitely within your price range. It's one of Daniel Bouloud's restaurants - the lower end version.

Oh, and btw, if you mean $200 pp, then go to Le Bernardin.

I would recommend Le Bernadin. You cannot get the tasting menu but they have a 4 course menu for $108 per person, so after wine and all the tab WILL be close to $300 but the food is trancendent. Nothing else in the area will come close, I don't think. Another less expensive possibility for seafood is Esca, one of Mario Batali's places on 43rd and 9th but I have not been there so cannot comment.

My very posh sister, Jennifer, just had dinner at Cafe Gray on Columbus Circle and RAVED about it.

I had dinner at the Iroquois a couple of years ago. It was excellent.
