That's more like it. No wonder I didn't make the connection. That other clip has to be from something more recent. He looks just like he looks on Glee. In 2002, he looked much younger. Thanks again for all that effort.

I'm still trying to figure it out. I've checked imdb for both MM and Caroline Rhea and she didn't have a show in 2009. That clip HAD to be from the 2002-2003 timeframe, because that's when her show was on the air. Maybe it was near the end and he had cut his hair or was not wearing a wig. I dunno. Tis a mystery

Well, some of you have almost convinced me of the logic of seeing a show because of a star. I guess I even admit to letting a particular star influence me. But I was basing my comment on the idea of "bragging rights" to see a show -- and I felt that it is often more common for people to buy bragging rights of having seen a particular star they can tell their friends they saw, than it is to say they saw a particular show.

You've all given some good examples of reasons to see some pretty great performers. I guess I was thinking more like the people who hate Shakespeare, would be bored to tears with Hamlet, yet went to see it strictly so they could say they saw Jude Law. I think there's a huge difference to go hear Barbara Cook sing Sondheim than going to say "I saw Jude Law on Broadway" when a person doesn't even enjoy the play. And yes, I think that DID happen a lot.

And that's funny about "discovering" Tom Wopat in Annie Get Your Gun. We saw it after Bernadette Peters left and was replaced by Reba Macintire. Lee wanted to see HER, and I only vaguely knew who she was -- some country western singer -- but I was totally blown away by her performance. And I even saw Ethel Merman do that role!!!

Now that you've absorbed the news about Matthew Morrison being an original cast member of Hairspray, here's news about another original cast member who's also a TV regular. Corey Reynolds, who played Seaweed, is currently the sergeant on The Closer.

Just for a data point, we saw Fela! last Friday and thought it was a smashing experience. I was slightly aware of Fela Kuti's music but was unprepared for the remarkable production (featuring Patti LaBelle) we saw. Probably the best dancing we've seen on Broadway, music that makes you get on your feet (which you're required to do at one point) and a compelling story. http://felaonbroadway.com/

FWIW we stayed at the brand-new Pearl Hotel directly across from the Eugene O'Neill Theater (where Fela! is playing) and had a huge, fabulous room at a very good rate. The hotel was so new that the continental breakfast included instant coffee in the lobby (regular space not yet finished) but otherwise a lovely place. http://www.pearlhotelnyc.com/

Update on Spiderman tickets/discounts.

Email I sent to Ticketmaster:
I am wondering --- in September, I received an email from The Nederlander Group for discount preview tickets for Spiderman. The code was good for performances November 17 to December 20. Orchestra seats $69 weekdays and $79
weekends. That would have covered performances up to the originally scheduled Opening Night of December 21. Are discount seats now being made available up to the newly announced Opening Night of January 11?
