NY at Christmas
We are planning a couple of nights in NYC before our Christmas vacation in Montreal. Would love to hear suggestions for hotel and dining.

Thanks
|
First, how about some idea on how much you want to spend and what types of restaurants you prefer?
|
We would like to spend between $150-@200 a night. Dinning - somthing romantic with a great view would be nice. Thanks again.

People on the forum have been recommending a Courtyard by Marriott which, I believe is on Lexington Avenue in the East 50s. (Someone, please correct me if I'm off on this location!) It's within your price range and the Courtyards are consistently more than decent.
As for restaurants, one that fills your requirements is the Water Club overlooking the East River at 30th Street. It's not cheap, however, and might cost you over $50-60 a person! I think you'll find it tough finding an inexpensive place that meets your criteria.
If I think of any others, I'll pass them along. Meanwhile, if you have any questions, ask.

Howard, the Courtyard in on 3rd Avenue in the East 50'S.

Frank, thanks for the correction! Hey, I was only a block off. Not bad!
Anyway, that's a good central area, Dawn. You can easily walk to most mid-Manhattan sites from there.

Dawn, I've just returned from NYC and checked hotels for a December visit - not Christmas week. It is nearly impossible to find a vacant room anywhere now. Most pricing is $250 and up. December is a most difficult time to visit NY without planning quite a bit in advance. The prices on everything in the city escalate during the holiday season. We've been advised to visit after New Year's Eve. January will be slower and much cheaper. Good Luck.
