Novice Skier

I was coming to USA (and Quebec City ) next February after a very enjoyable trip a few weeks ago.

Now due to work circumstances cannot go in February. My dates are now 1st Dec to 22 Dec. I was going do learner classes somewhere in USA. Now I have a problem of where to go to ensure I get some snow. I imagine the lesson will not be a problem.

Can anyone give me advice on a place that has an 80% chance of skiable snow at that time of the year.

thanks

Judy

I would head to Colorado or Utah.

I ski in NH, Vermont, and Maine and think the mountains are great for novice skiers but decent snow before Christmas can be iffy. Sometimes it is great, sometimes it is weak. The further north you go the better the chances. So, if you can get to Colorado or Utah I would do that for the added certainty. If that is too far, try areas in New England like Sunday River and Smuggler's Notch, higher north and better odds of early snow.

I'd rule out Utah, or at least Park City - snow is iffy that early.

Thanks for the advice. Looks like it is Wolfs Creek.

I am sure Wolf Creek is fine, but any Colorado ski resort will be fine/good. I would go somewhere easily accessible from teh Denver airport. Keystone has an excellent ski school as do Breckenridge and Vail and all are within 2 hours of DIA and accessible by a shuttle service.

Thinking of you being in Quebec anyway, you might ask how the snow will be in the Canadian mountains near there.

Mont Tremblant in Quebec is scheduled to open November 24 depending on snow conditions. http://www.tremblant.ca/mountain/operation_hours-e.htm
Maybe head there first and then head to a US ski resort that has good conditions at the time. It is very hard to predict what snow conditions will be two months in advance.
