November in Amish Country

I'm thinking of taking my wife and 2 children, a boy 8 and a girl 5, to visit Amish Country in Pennsylvania during the long Thanksgiving weekend. I think it would be very educational and fun for the children and I'm sure my wife and I would find it fun as well. My questions are: can anyone recommend a good family-oriented hotel in the Lancaster area? Is there enough to do to keep my 8 year old boy occupied? Do you think my 5 year old daughter would enjoy Intercourse?

This is either incredibly dumb or one of the more inventive -- and tasteless -- trolls: Would your 5-year-old daughter enjoy intercourse? I''ll leave that one alone.

troll aside, you might enjoy my 70+ parents' opinion of Amish country. They were both raised on farms during the Depression. What you see the Amish doing today is the way they lived daily as children - dress and religion aside.

Now, given that versus their home today, the 2 Mercedes they drive, etc., they can't understand the fascination anyone would have with choosing to live that lifestyle today!

Rob, I can't speak for your daughter but you and your wife might enjoy a little "Bird-in-Hand" if she's up for it.

Please, no comments about churning butter, o.k.?

Rob...Bird in Hand and Intercourse are towns adjacent to Lancaster..but you knew that. If you could drive to Strassburg Penn., take the Strassburg Railroad train. It takes you through the countryside in which the Amish live and work. I think your children and you and your wife would also injoy the train ride.

There are some Amish farms that, for a fee, you can tour their home, buy freshly made baked goods and other Amish items.

Most of the towns are loaded with shops that could be tiring for a 5 and 8 year old.
