Not too expensive, not stuffy, not too gourmet North End Italian restaurant

We are celebrating my father's 88th Birthday tomorrow. We are doing a duck tour and then the North End for lunch. I was all set to go to Giacomo's but found out they aren't open for lunch.

I want to keep it simple. It is going to be very hot and we don't want to eat real heavy. He has trouble walking and maybe we should go somewhere in the middle of most activity as opposed to a side street, maybe Hanover Street. That way he will experience the fun and excitement of the North End. I would love a place that is an experience and lively.

He has very fond memories of being raised in Boston and we are trying to get some great straight forward, not expensive food. He doesn't eat exotic.

I had a great lunch at Strega and it was a fun atmosphere. It is right on Hanover Street not far from the statue of Paul Revere.

AuntAnnie - thanks for the suggestion. I looked at their menu on line and the food looks too gourmet for my Dad and it is higher priced than we want for lunch. I would love to go sometime.

Is 5 North Square open for lunch? Its off Hanover but not too far (just up from Paul Revere's house). Not too expensive, not stuffy at all and not gourmet either. Very down to earth Italian.

Paglucias on Paramentor St (1/2 block off Hanover)is a classic neighborhood red sauce and pasta place - nuttin' fancy!
We also like L'Osteria on Salem St.

I'll second L'Osteria. It's our favorite traditional Italian place.

Add a cafe for drinks of dessert. Cafe Vittoria or Cafe Graffiti on Hanover Street.
