Went to Hawaii from MN, and the hardest part was the long travel time. We made the mistake of going to Honolulu and Maui. After talking to other travelers, I know we would have enjoyed it much better if we did some of the less crowded islands. Maui was very nice, but VERY expensive. Honolulu was such a dissapointment we left early. I wish we had done Kuai (SP?) or other islands instead. If I ever go back, I will skip the more populated and "touristy" areas and seek out the less spoiled islands.. As fars as being welcome as a Canadian, what are you even talking about????

Kauai is just what you seem to be looking for. If you go you should definitely stay in the North. No crowds, no dirty city like on the South.
Beautiful garden type scenery. Waimea Canyon is very similar to our Grand Canyon, if you've never seen it.
Amazing rain forest and gorgeous beaches. This is the place where your tropical movies have been shot. The only thing we didn't like was the food. Very expensive and if you don't like fish there's not much more than steak. With all the greenery I expected more in the way of fruits and vegetable dishes. Not on Kauai.

We love Kauai and live in Tennessee. The condo we rent at Poipu is owned by Canadians, and most of their guests, from looking at the Guestbook, are from Canada. I have visited Oahu 2 times, Maui 1 time, and Kauai 2 times. Will return to Kauai for 2 weeks in August 2002. We love the lush greenery, beautiful beaches, lack of crowds. Let me know if you are interested in the email address for the owner who live in Surrey BC.

Hawaii is a feast for the senses.
I would also suggest Bermuda. We lived there for a few years. There are many Canadians working there as well as British and American citizens; in fact, Canada had a wonderful naval base there that has since closed. For best snorkelling and swimming, go June-October.

I am a Canadian and travelled to Oahu in 1999. Don't worry about not be accepted. People are friendly in the Hawaiian Islands. I have never met any hostility in any of the states I have visited. I think Canada- US has mutual respect for each other. Don't worry. You will love the Hawaiian Islands!
