Not another zoo
I am 13 and going to Florida with my mom and two sisters. They want to stop at the Atlanta zoo. Is it a cool place to stop? Is there anything better I can tell them about?
|
Two options: see the Carter Center (10 minutes from downtown), and the Cyclorama Exhibit (of the Civil War). Or the King museum. Personally, I don't find all that much of interest to do in Atalanta ... but I'm sure someone will read me the riot act for saying that. So, hopefully, you'll hear something else of interest. If they suggest Underground, forget it.

If I was 13 again, the only thing I'd think was cool other than bumming around Little 5 Points with my friends (mom won't like that) would be the Fernbank Museum. They've got a new cast model of the largest dinosaur in the world on display and other nature museum stuff. And if you've never seen an IMAX film, definitely do that there. They likely have a web site.

You might like the Coke Museum, but it is a real tourist trap.

I don't like zoos either.

If you like history and want to see something unique to Atlanta, go to Stone Mountain Park, see the carving, climb or ride the cable car to the top, etc.

There are every few zoos worth seeing , and if you've seen one of them , why go to a zoo in Atlanta? I think "Not another zoo" sums it up prety well.

Whoops. Didn't mean to hit enter yet. Speaking of zoos you might want to look at www.microzoo.com. This site will take you to newspaper sites of most cities in the US as well as radio and TV web sites. Newspaper web sites often have links to things to see and do in that area. You could also look at www.citysearch.com and www.digitalcity.com and find attractions there that might interest you. Good luck and pass on another smelly zoo.
