Northern VA I-95 detour Thurs nite

FYI for those I-95 travelers:

If anyone plans on leaving early for the holiday tonight, beware that the ramp to I-95 south from the inner loop of 495 (southbound) will be closed overnight in Springfield, VA starting at 12am. The detour consists of going north on 395 and turning around to head south on 95. Heading north on I-95 towards DC/395, the ramp to the inner loop will be closed as well. *EXPECT MAJOR DELAYS* Check local DC/NoVA traffic before you leave or take alt routes. Happy 4th!

YIKES!! As a former, born and raised, northern VA girl, now living in Atlanta, all I can say is, that will be one BIG mess!! It takes nothing to cause a huge back up in that area.

If you can bypass DC, by all means do so! Heading north on I-95 from points south of Richmond, VA - get on I-295, take the exit for 301 north, and follow 301 ALL THE WAY to Maryland, cross the Potomac River Bridge, you can pick up 95 again around Baltimore. More scenic and LOTS less frustrating!

joyninvirginia, i gave up on 95 years ago, 301 is the answer!

I often use the US301 route too, unless I want to go to DC. I've received grief over this one on this board: During off-hours, I often use US-1 from where it crosses Beltway @ Alexandria to where it rejoins down near Potomac Mills (Dumfries?). Lots of traffic lights, but I seem to hit them just right.

As I'm often to Tidewater VA, I also like the ride up DelMarVa peninsula.
