any suggestions for places to stay on our way south from Ashland OR to Napa? We have 4 days & would like to golf a couple of days & visit wineries the other 2. Thanks!

Assuming you are considering the Napa Valley area - there are other discussions/posts in here under California that recommend a number of different wineries. And there are also plenty of other things to do in the Napa/Sonoma areas.

You can also google for Golf courses - but it would be hard to beat Silverado - where golfing great Johnny Miller is very involved with the course/resort.

And if it wree me - I would just drive from Ashland to Napa/Sanoma and spend time there - rather than stopping along the way. It's only about 5 hours. http://tinyurl.com/8959v3t

But if you did want to stay on the coast - you could head over toward Mendicino - and make your way south from there - maybe even staying at quaint little Gualala. :)

Do you turn your nose up at the Oregon wineries?

In Sonoma County one of the most spectacular courses in "The Links at Bodega Harbor, right on the coast.
The Chardonnay course on the edge of Napa offers some great holes. And the Vinter's in Yountville is well liked.

Wineries in Napa Valley, Sequoia Grove for excellent Cabernets. Rombauer is DWs top for Chardonnay, Sterling offers great tour with the tram to the top, but the wines are nothing special. Frank Family has a nice selection of Chards and Zinfandel. If you like sparkling wines try Domain Chandon at Yountville.

Sonoma (Headlsbur area) top pick are "J", Ridge Lytton Springs, Ferrari-Carano( in the Dry Creek Valley). Francis Ford Coppola has a wine destination a few miles north, restaurant, swimming pool, wine tasing, gift shop and more. And Silver Oak Cellars for stunning Cabs.
