Northeast to Canada Road Trip
I am planning a summer car trip from New York to Quebec City. I originally was going to fly but someone told me a car ride with side trips would be enjoyable. We don't have any time limit but I am having problems trying to locate interesting places to visit both going and coming back. If anyone has taken a similar trip or has any ideas please let me know what sources or personal information on this trip you could pass on to me. Thank you.

On the way up n New York youmihgt want to visit Saratoga (just not during racing season) - a really pretty town with a couple of museums and some good restaurants. Also consider Lake George (the town at the south ed is kind of tacky but much of the lake is beautiful) and Lake Champlain.
And naturaly a top in Montreal is worthwhile for at least a dozen reasons.

Another option would be to go through Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. You could stop in the Berkshires which is lovely in the summer time, going to Tanglewood or a museum or 2. Go up into New Hampshire and stop in the White Mountains maybe near Franconia Notch, then cross into Canada and stay a day or 3 in the Eastern Townships (if your budget will support a stay at Manoire Hovey it is HIGHLY recommended, but very expensive).
You could make a loop trip, if you have plenty of time. Go up the west side of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks as nytraveler recommends, and through Montreal, then come back through the Eastern Townships and New Hampshire.
I'm assuming you are starting from New York City, of course.
