Northeast - October

My friend and I are looking to spend a long weekend (4days) traveling somewhere in the Northeast in beginning October. Neither of us have ever visited there, so we were looking for some suggestions? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Boston would be perfect for a few days and then on to Cape Cod for a day or 2. Crowds are gone. Weather can still be on the mild side.

Fall foliage tours thru all of New England.

New England is ideal - Stockbridge MA. to Burlington Vermont.

How about Montreal area in Canada where your dollar stretches a long way? The fall colours are brilliant in October.A beautiful island city built around a mountain. Magnifique!

A second on Boston, Cap Cod, Martha's Vineyard and the surrounding areas. A few years ago I took my first trip there in October; the weather was absolutely lovely, and I had a wonderful time. I'd rank it up there with my favorite trips amid several European travels.

Fly into MHT (Manchester NH) and head to Portsmouth. It's a great seaport city with wonderful restaurants and things to do. If you want shopping, just drive over the bridge to the Kittery Maine outlets. Take a harbor or inland rivers boat ride. You could easily drive up to the mountains on a day trip.
