North Shore cottage help

All - I've checked out the VRBO listings and there is slim pickings for my 10 day stay on Oahu's North Shore (January 15-25). Hubby and I are low maintenance, active, outdoors-oriented and we like to cook. We are not the resort type so we were thinking of a small beach cottage - something with a BBQ so we can grill out. Clean, quiet and around $150 a night. Does anyone have any suggestions on a place or can anyone recommend another site besides VRBO?

Winter is not a great time to stay north on Kauai, Oahu, and to some extent, Maui -- skip Napili and Kapalua. North shores and higher elevations will almost surely be windy and rainy. Winter conditions extend to Hilo on Big Island and Hana on Maui.

Your budget is pretty low. You might find something in Kihei, Maalaea or Kahana on Maui or Kona Town on Big Island.

Maybe homeaway.com? or dwellable.com? Condo's during your days are going to be hard to come by. A lot of them get booked really early especially for the winter months. (I just booked a condo for March, and even then my search resulted in slim pickins)

Hope you find something! I just replied to your other thread on the itinerary. If you can't find something on the north shore for all 10 days try doing a split stay, some nights in north shore, some in waikiki or windward side. You may find availability that way and some owers may charge a discount because you'll be "filling in" the times between other rentals. Also try hotwire - you may be able to get a good price for a condo type hotel (check the amenities before you purchase). Hope this helps!

aloha from Kauai...agree with previous guests...tough time last minute to book anything...if you came to Kauai, there are a couple smaller cottages available yet not in your price range...remember, its high season and prices go up as well as booked at least a year in advance...check out craigslist in Kauai for Hanalei Christmas cottages...mahalo

My friends on the North Shore/right next to Waimea bay - rent out their 2nd unit - over their garage - old styl - 2 BR, kitchen, etc - but I think it goes for a bit more than $150 a night.

Keep checking VRBO and call arouund too.
