North Carolina Vacation

Hubby and I plan to take our first anniversary vacation to NC Smokey Mountains (probably Asheville area). We’re looking for a secluded, private place to stay with a spectacular view and hot tub (I’d also like a fireplace but that’s optional). Were looking at late October early November and plan to take part in Biltmore and Blue Ridge Parkway during the weekday to minimize the traffic and tourists. Does anyone have any suggestions on places to stay or other things to do? We will be there about a week and his plan is to relax, while mine is to relax and have some fun. Were driving from Michigan so we will have 6 nights and seven days. Thank you for your suggestions.

Are you interested in a cabin or would you be OK with a small hotel? Take a look at Sourwood Inn. Happy anniversary, perfect place to celebrate!

I use vrbo.com almost exclusively in the NC Mts. I would look around Black Mt. a great little town w/easy access to the BRP & very close to Asheville. Try & wait until Nov., by then the 'leaf-peepers' will have vacated.

I'd say vrbo.com. November is the better time for rates and availablity as SAnParis2 says. It's hard to go wrong with anything near Asheville. I visited a friend in Brevard a couple of weeks ago and fell in love with the little town.

Asheville is in the mountains, but not really the Smokies.

Thank you for your replies. My husband would like a cabin or something like it that is secluded and peaceful (he’s a work-a-holic currently pulling 80 hours a week). I’ll check out the Black Mountain area as well. He has also opened it up to anywhere in the mountains with a fabulous view but I’d like to be by some civilization so we can eat well and have other activities to do. I’ll also start looking at vrbo.com. Thank you for your direction and expert advice.

Look at Burnsville and Weaverville also. Cute little towns north of Asheville.
You might look at Bryson City also, on the south part of the SMNP. Frymont Inn is an old style inn that is very nice. The front porch has a lovely view--as did our room. There is another smaller B&B just down the lane that we have also stayed at but can't recall the name at the moment.
