Gretchen - I thought you lived in Charlotte, as do I...if you don't see the continuing issues then you are fortunate in the circles you keep. Although Charlotte has a very high density of "Yankees", the acceptance of them/us in the South still really exists. I was always taught to respect everyone regardless...As I stated earlier the North v. South thing does not seem to exist in the North. It is too bad that it can not be eliminated everywhere, as there are much bigger problems to worry about...like uncontrolled development & a miserable infrastructure.

Have you considered moving to Virginia? Chesterfield, Henrico and Hanover are some wonderful counties with a variety of neighborhoods. In those areas, you are not very far away from Va. Beach (2hrs), Outer Banks (3-5hrs) or Myrtle Beach (6hrs). They are also close to lovely mountains...Charlottesville, Roanoke, Blacksburg, Waynesboro. There is a variety of people from the north, and I have never heard any north vs. south talk. My neighbors are from NY and love it here! Just a thought.

In general, I would say there is no significant conflict going on in the South that relates to Northern influx. Most of the time it seems to be a matter for jokes rather than hostility. I also think that where I live, in the Raleigh-Durham area of NC, except for increased traffic, the increased diversity is a great thing. Most people don't have a problem with it.
