North Carolina in October
Where in North Carolina is the best place to view pretty fall foliage? Any suggestions or tips? We like the mountains, outdoors, and wildlife. Where would be a good place to stay in the mountains as your base and take day trips from there? Where is the best place to go to look for furniture? Thanks for any advice.

The best place for furniture is in Hickory/High Point area on I 40--not in the mountains. Hendricks Furniture is supposed to be quite good.
Mountains? Ashville, Burnsville, drive the Blue Ridge Parkway from Ashville down to Pisgah. |
+1 on furniture in High point--lived in Jamestown for a while, right next to High Point, and they also have good deals as well.Asheville is a great place to stay.If you want to really splurge, the Grove Park inn is exceptional--stay in the old wing if you can.And the Biltmore is a terrific place to visit

The best places to see brilliant autumn colors and awe-inspiring mountain vistas are right here, in the western mountains of North Carolina. The hills and mountains in and around Asheville are world-renown for their "fall color show". This area is consistently ranked high on "Best Places to Visit" lists because of it's natural beauty and southern charm. Many believe that autumn is the best time to be here

We were in Ashville last October, and it was nothing less than incredible. We stayed in a beautiful Heritage Home B&B and took day trips out along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Breathtaking! The Biltmore is not our cup of tea, but surely enjoyed the bus tour, we were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. I think the best ribs I've ever had or ever will have was in Asheville, pointed out to us during the bus tour. Is that an enthusiastic enough endorsement of the area for you?? =)
