North Carolina Beach for little kids
We are traveling to Greenville & Raleigh for business, but would like to bring our kiddos and stay longer to go to the beach. Please suggest a great family place. Our kids are LITTLE...3 years and 6 months. & where is the best place to stay...a rental house or a hotel. We like a little luxury but don't want to spend tons of money. $150-200ish/night is ideal. Also, what's the best time to visit. I'm thinking May-Sept. We'd love to see shells, starfish, dolphins, etc. Thanks!

Don't leave out the SC beaches--you are just about as close to them. Your per diem in high season--June, July and August--may be a little "light". Late august is absolutely gorgeous at the beach, and a little cheaper maybe.
With little ones you might want a hotel that has a pool. You might look at the Litchfield Inn in Pawley's Island (SC) in May and late August, September. It is ocean front so the beach is very accessible and also has a pool. It has been renovated in recent years which it needed (!!). It can be a great value for the location.
Up in NC you could look at Wrightsville, Kure, Atlantic beaches close to Wilmington. There is a variety of rentals available there.

Ocean Isles Beach NC ~ The Winds Resort. Been going every mid august 6 years in a row. We rent rooms in one of their cottages across the street. Each room has 2 queen beds, Full bath, Balcony, table w/2 chairs, small sink & fridge, coffee pot, toaster & microwave. The resort has 3 pools, ping pong, shuffle board, tiki bar & snack bar, Work out room & Bycicles. Small Buffet Breakfast included. Perfect if travelling with little ones! A Great family place. Not much to do ( which seems ok for such little ones) Tiny town, very relaxing, beautiful beach, ice cream parlor, mini golf..... We love it. Well worth the money! Check out their reviews on tripquest~ 99% All positive! Good Luck & enjoy wherever you go!

We love Ocean Isle, and have seen the Winds. Good to know all the amenities. We went to Ocean Isle when our kids were small and there were literally the ocean row of houses and the second row across the street!! The island is now EXTREMELY developed, and the one thing the major owner did was keep the "center" the exact same as it was 40 years ago--a pier, a miniature golf (maybe), one small grocery/bait store, etc.--as the prior poster also said. There is a restaurant and ABC store. There are other good restaurants in the area, of course. Fortunately there are now good supermarkets across the causeway (it was a rotating bridge over the Inland Waterway!!).
The beach has been renourished extensively at that end of teh island also which can make for a "harsher" kind of sand.
Just some other thoughts on that beach.
