North Captiva - update on conditions post hurricane?

We vacationed in North Captiva a few months before it was damaged by Hurricane Charlie. We had a great time and are considering a return visit.

Does anyone have any up to date info on conditions there? Someone told me that the island was still not recovered, but I don't know how accurate that was.

What are the beaches like now?

Anyone been there recently?

Although the area was severely scarred in tree loss and greenery, there are signs of recovery... South Seas Plantation used the opportunity for a slow and almost total rebuild of their property at the tip of Captiva... they have begun to reopen sections of the resort, however most of the islands jungle appearance has been stripped away... the beaches are still there however, making a visit there still a positive experience....

gary - thanks. Actually North Captiva is an island north of Captiva Island, the home of South Seas.

North Captiva is only developed on its northern side - very natural. We rented a house there and very much enjoyed our stay. This was before Charlie hit.

Reports from anyone that's been there?

We were there a year ago and it was not that bad. There were still houses that needed to be rebuilt or some sort of work. However, the majority of the Island was lovely and and we had a great time on the beautiful beaches. I am sure this year it is even better.
