Norfolk Hotels
Any recommendations for hotel with pool in Norfolk? Plan to visit Nautilus and the Wisconsin. Any feedback on the Marriott or Sheraton? Thanks!

Nancy, My husband and I met in Norfolk and I'd always dreamed of returning to the OMNI (which is now the Sheraton) when we could afford it. My dream was realized a couple of years ago, when we visited. The Sheraton was undergoing renovations at the time, and we were put on a floor that hadn't been remodeled. It was unfit for human habitation. The air was stale; the room smelled of cigarette smoke; the lights were dim. The waterfront development next door, which had been such a hope for Norfolk when we lived there, had become a Hooters haven. It was so depressing. We cancelled the next two nights of reservations and split for Virginia Beach, where we got oceanfront rooms for less money. It was lovely at the beach and not a long drive.
The Sheraton might be better since it was remodeled. But, I'd never consider staying there again. I'd seriously look into the Marriott if I had to stay in Norfolk.
Moreso, I'd advise staying at the Beach.

There's a brand-new (1 week old) Courtyard by Marriott across from MacArthur Mall (walking distance to Nauticus and Wisconsin). Not sure if it has a pool though.

Norfolk has undergone a major revitalization in the last couple of years. The new marriott courtyard would be a great choice as would the actual marriott. Both are very convienent to major attractions.
Enjoy!

gohamptonroads.com (the website for locals) might provide links to the city of Norfolk/hotels you're wondering about. Or call them directly. Stop at Waterside while you're visiting - it's a 5 minute walk from Nauticus and the Wisconsin. The top level has shops and the bottom level shops and some restaurants.

I stayed at the Norfolk Marriott two months ago and it was extremely nice with a lovely pool area. You can't go wrong - make sure you ask for a view!
