non-ski trip to snowy area?
Hi, we live in VA and would like to do a short trip for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Yes, I realize it's last minute. We are a young couple, but I'm pregnant and he's got a knee problem, so we don't need a place with ski slopes. just snow. Any ideas? I'm thinking no further than WV/PA/TN.
Oooh, and as you can tell by the screenname, I love to eat, especially good gourmet type food. We have eaten our way through Vermont, Drank our way through RI and Mass. , and ate and drank our way through London and Paris. If you know of a Vermont-type place in the South, please suggest it. Chocolate, cheese and wine (oh, boo hoo...no wine for me) free tastings every couple miles would be ideal!!! Thanks! Thanks! |
You will not be guaranteed snow at Christmas unless you come MUCH farther north than WV/PA/TN.

Mountain Top Inn in Vermont. It has horse-drawn sleighs, a hot tub, and x-country ski trails that you can walk along. Really great food. A nice little town nearby. |
You MAY be lucky to see some snow in upper elevations along Blue Ridge Parkway. I recomend visiting Asheville, NC. It is a beautiful mountain gem even without snow. As wliwl said, you will not be guaranteed snow at Christmas unless you come farther north than WV/PA/TN.

Thanks everyone. I guess we'll just stay home with the dogs. They like Christmas and don't want to spend it alone anyway. That place in Vermont sounds great. I would LOVE to go back to Vermont.

Go to Montreal and/or Quebec City. We did a Christmas trip with our grownup kids one year and it was magical! Wonderful food, beautiful snow, great shopping.
