Non-driveing NYer looking for advice on what to do in San Francisco
Hey everybody! I will be in San Francisco 6/24 & fly out 6/30. I am considering staying at the Red Victorian in the Haight Ashbury area. I don't drive, so that curtails a few things.

I know that I am definitely going to Sausalito and Golden Gate Park.

Hey, LukieLuke! :)

You're in luck! San Francisco has great public transportation and you really don't need a car.

There are several bus routes that run right along the Haight. Once you get to the Red Victorian B&B, I'm certain they will be able to help you get to wherever you would like to go.

Purchase the one week pass. This will allow you to travel on almost all the public transportation systems in SF, even the cable cars.

Sausalito can easily be reached by ferry.

The Golden Gate Park is about two blocks from where you will be staying.

Like they used to say in the '60s: Peace, man!

If the weather is nice, head out to Baker Beach.

Rent a bike!!! It is a great way to SF!! you really don't need a car, but the haight is a bit away from the other tourist areas - it is far more diffcult(and more expensive) to use cabs - but the MUNI works pretty well.
We visted a year ago for 4 days and we were fine without a car.(but I did rent one the last day - so I could drive the hilly streets)

Also - with the Bike Idea you an rent one at fishermans warf ride over the golden gate bridge to sausalito and then ferry back to the warf and drop of your bike(bike path the whole way)

I recommend renting a bike too. You can take them on the ferries, and I believe there are bike racks on buses too.

When you buy your transportation pass, spring for a map of the transportation system. It's really handy to have when you've walked a long distance and are too pooped to walk back to your hotel room.
