NOLA restaurants: could locals check these reservations...
Headed to NOLA during JazzFest. Here's our confirmed list for restaurant reservations:
Praline Connection - Gospel Brunch
Bayona
Peristyle
Gautreau's
Brigsten's
Galatoire's

Would appreciate your opinion (deletions/additions). Am aware Galatoire's requires jacket...asume the others mentioned require smart/casual attire.
Thanks to all who reply!
|
Note to my earlier post: restaurant list is for dinner reservations.
|
Excellent line-up! Enjoy!

i'm not a local, but have eaten (or wanted to) at several on your list and it looks good to me. personally, i do think galatoire's is overated. and our best meal last spring was a then-new restaurant called Cuvee in the CBD.

Elaine, your choices are excellent. I personally would ditch Galatoire's and do something a little less attitude and more casual like Mr. B's Bistro or Palace Cafe, but that's entirely your call. Bayona, Peristyle and Brigtsen's are among my favorites.

Thanks to Meg (for all your informative replies), texasgirl and John for your replies.

Note to John:
Re: Galatoire's/less attitude...I heartily agree! Between Mr. B's Bistro and Palace Cafe, do you have a preference and do we need advance dinner reservations? You've been more than kind replying to my frequent posts.
One last food query: Is Praline Connection (gospel brunch) in your repertoire? If not, any additional suggestions for Sunday brunch (attitude or not!).
Thanks so much.
|
Praline Connection is fine for Sunday brunch, especially House of Blues is getting bad reviews lately as far as brunch goes.

I like Mr. B's over Palace Cafe but they're both good and you can't go wrong with either. Other possibilities in the "nice place but okay with jeans" category would be Feelings Cafe or Cafe Marigny.
|
Great list of restaurants-BUT- I would take one afternoon and lunch at MOTHERS.
|
Elaine - I haven't been to the brunch at Praline Connection, but I've had lunch there and it was good. Palace Cafe has a great jazz brunch that we enjoyed just a few weeks ago. Live jazz and a great menu selection. I tend to agree with the others about Galatoire's - if you have to cancel something, that would be my choice. John's rec on Feelings is also a good one. Hope you have a great trip!

Thank you for all your wonderful suggestions.

John and Meg: We decided to 'ditch'
Galatoire's and replace with Mr. B's Bistro. Am thinking of changing Praline Connection (brunch) to Palace Cafe (Sat. or Sun.?). Both Mr. B's and Palace have excellent websites. Should we add "Feelings" to our dinner list and cancel another reservation?
We plan on having lunch at Praline Connection.
We are adventurous diners and prefer 'the meal' vs ambiance.
