NOLA question

We're planning to be in NOLA with our grandson (12 years old) later this month. Among other things, we'd like to go to a club in the evening to hear dixieland and/or Cajun music.
Considering that most clubs probably serve alcohol, will there be a problem taking our grandson into these clubs? If so, can you recommend places that will allow him in for the shows?

If you click on my user name, you will see my trip report for New Orleans. We went to a decent restaurant that had jazz music. You won't be able to take your grandson into a bar or most clubs. But I think this restaurant should do it. We did lots of things that were kid friendly (we are really big nerdy kids at heart!) so you should find some good ideas from my trip report.

There will likely be bands and many musicians playing in or near Jackson Square and in other parks and venues. You could eat near there, then listen to music outside. You will find tourist info on different bands in the parks. Some may have a fee. Sorry I do not remember where I picked up the times and places. Ask at your hotel.

Your GS might enjoy a tour of the cemetery (Lafayette 1) in the garden district. We did not book a tour, just took the trolley and walked to the cemetery. There was a gentleman there who gave tours for tips. He was great. There is a wonderful, casual restaurant a few blocks from the cemetery. I hope I remember correctly that it was called JoeyK's. We had lunch there after touring the cemetery.

StantonHyde, thank you for that information. We'll take a copy of your trip report with us when we go.

Sassafrass, those were very good suggestions. Thanks for your reply.

Don't forget to have ice-cream. It is really popular in NOLA. Tons of places with all home-made and just fabulous! Oh, also fudge!

Not Dixieland or Cajun, but Preservation Jazz Hall is open to all ages. https://www.preservationhall.com/

Mulate's is another option that might work.

I googled and came up with this article. It's not easy, but there's some....

Thought of one other... Rock N Bowl (where you do not have to bowl).
